When Is Enough, Really Enough?
If you live by the sword ...
You have probably seen the 35 second clip of the statue punch viral video of a street performer in Australia that had enough of the blond haired guy touching him and invading his personal space so he punches him straight in the face.
The video at present moment has about 12 million+ views on YouTube.

Look but don't touch the Statue ... or he might punch you in the face!
Having both performed as a human statue myself and also booking this wonderful interactive visual act for numerous venues and companies around the world I can say that yes the guy had it coming, but ultimately, no it should not have happened. This statue was completely wrong in his actions and had they been under contract for me would have been fired immediately!I feel that the public needs to know that this is not acceptable behavior on either part. Never is it okay to put your hands on a street performer with no warning or invitation, and unless the situation is absolutely life threatening you as a street performer should never resort to violence of any kind.

Peaceful, Family Friendly Statues Available | ASTinc |
You find yourself taking a risk every time you go for a laugh, a scare, or any other reaction at the public's expense. You take that chance because the rewards of hearing hundreds of human beings joyfully engaged in a reaction of laughter and amusement at the performance you are giving far outweigh the risk of having to deal with the occasional heckler and or drunkard.
But when those risks present themselves in situations like we see in the Statue Punch Video. It is still your job as a professional entertainer to breakdown and deflect as much of the danger as possible for the safety of not only you but the unsuspecting public just feet from where you stand.
They have stopped to give you their attention and a few minutes of their busy lives (and hopefully a few dollars too) but they did not agree to become victims of any sort of violence that could happen as a result of a poorly handled situation.

Concerns From A Boss.
As a producer of live entertainment for events and festivals worldwide it worries me to think of the public's reaction to the statues we have booked now and statues we will book in the future. I have a vested interest in making sure my performers remain safe and I also go to great measures to assure my clients that issues like the one in the Statue Punch Viral Video will not be a problem at their event. Here are a few of the concerns I have now:
- Will this 5 minutes of Internet fame ruin the confidence my performers have when making a living as a statue?
- Will clients pull statues from their entertainment lineups when looking for festival or event performers?
- Will future clients balk at the mention of statues in my proposals for their events?
- Will there be copycat situations replicated in order to achieve 5 minutes of Internet fame for some other desperate attention seeker?
